Events like Columbine High School, Okalahoma City and September 11th have changed the way law enforcement responds to critical incidents. Local police departments now train in Incident Command and develop plans to respond to crises of unimaginable proportions. Today’s tactics require significant resources to implement fully. How does the Hedwig Village Police Department meet the need? We are a charter member of a multi-jurisdictional tactical unit called the Spring Branch – Memorial Special Response Team [SRT]. Recently, our SRT has combined with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Control Unit to provide tactical expertise in crisis situations. Together we can meet the extraordinary needs of policing in the 21st century.
